For the Good

Probably no verse in Scripture reminds us more of God’s Sovereignty than Romans 8:28- “and we know that God is at work in all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” (translation mine).

In this verse we have a poignant reminder that God is actively working for our good and His glory. We are reminded in this verse that being a believer is View full article »

Punishing Dissent

Punishment

On Monday June 18, The Town council of Jackson passed on its first reading a city Ordinance criminalizing discrimination against individuals based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.
The ordinance provides for fines up to $750 per day for violations. No doubt, the stated intention of this ordinance is to create a more tolerant society and promote harmony in the community. Scratch a little deeper and its unintended consequences are more than troubling. View full article »

Character of God

The Character of God

As we study the Character of God this summer, I also want to introduce you to some of the early church creeds that formulated some of the basic tenets of the Christian faith.

These Creeds do not hold the same authority as sacred Scripture but they give us a good overview of the major beliefs of the Orthodox faith as well as help us understand some of the major battles that were fought in early church history to come to grips with what is truth. View full article »

Hungry for God

Hungry for God

Since finishing our study in II Corinthians we are going to take a few weeks and do some individual studies in the Word on some various subjects.
Later this summer Lord willing we will return to a study on the character of God that we had begun when I first took ill.

Today we are studying Matthew 5:6 on hungering after righteousness. If you would like to do some individual study on this subject I would highly recommend a book by John Piper, Desiring God. In 1999 I was preaching a series of messages at a camp. View full article »

Jerseys

“And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.” Genesis 3:20

My wife has a Jersey Cow that we milk for our families’ milk that is named Honey. She is the most excessive mother I have ever seen. She tries to mother every animal that is born on our ranch. Sometimes I jokingly call her ‘Eve’ because she seems to be the mother of all living things! View full article »
