Generic Parenting

“There is no such thing as generic “parenting”. There is mothering and there is fathering, and children do best with both. While many mothers and fathers have raised children alone out of necessity, and have done so successfully, it remains true that mothers and fathers bring different strengths to the task… these differences are not the results of gender Stereotypes. They are a matter of what comes naturally to moms and dads.

When Harry became Sally, Ryan Anderson

So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.” Gen. 1:27

One of the greatest crisis’ facing us as a people is the confusion in our culture about men and women. Due to the fact that as a culture we have rejected Biblical authority people no longer know who they are.
For the Christian (and those with a Judeo-Christian worldview) we understand that man is a direct creation of God- made in His very image.
For the secularist, man has merely evolved over eons of time and is nothing more than a, result of random chance.

Since we understand that man was made by God, we have the understanding that God has “hardwired” us with natural endowments related to our gender. Gender is not assigned at birth it is a part of who we are from conception. As such, men have certain strengths, and women have complementary strengths and together we function as “one.” Thus God designed maleness and femaleness.

Our specific gender also relates to how we parent. Fathers and mothers both are essential for procreation. They are also indispensable in parenting. As Ryan notes, many single parents have successfully negotiated the difficulties of parenting, but the norm was designed by God for the health of the child.

As we celebrate Father’s day today, thank God for the Father He gave you. Undoubtedly he was not perfect, but he contributed to your life in many ways to make you the person you are today.
Thank Him and him for the man He gave you to be your Dad.
Because of grace,
Tim
