On Thursday I read an editorial against the Mississippi law that doesn’t allow doctors to kill babies after 15 weeks of pregnancy. I am sure you have heard that the Supreme Court is hearing a case brought to them on the constitutionality of this law.

This case has great potential to be the death of Roe vs. Wade in the United States and perhaps will turn the regulation of baby killing back to the states.
We need to pray that the Lord intervenes for these precious little children in this regard.

But I digress. In his editorial against the law, David Von Drehle opened with the following illustration:

“The leading cause of death for children in the US is motor vehicle accidents. A study by SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research in the Netherlands determined that virtually all car related fatalities occur at speeds above about 25 mph. In other words, the leading cause of death in children could be eliminated overnight by requiring a simple device on every automobile to cap its speed at 25 mph. of course, that’s never going to happen. I mention it only illustrate a chilly fact about coexisting in human society. Even in matters of life and death, society weighs protection of life with other competing interests.”

Wow! Alarming reasoning at the least! Consider, he does not argue the life of the child or even its viability. He merely argues: “competing interests in society.” He then goes on to talk about the inconvenience that a child can be to a young single mother who want a career or how an unplanned pregnancy can sideline the hopes of the expectant mother.

Yes, in life we always take calculated risk in the way we operate our daily existence. But to equate that capacity with societies need to allow for baby killing is ludicrous. I don’t understand how he can’t see he is talking apples and oranges? In what other case do we allow members of society to actively kill another human being when their interests compete?

Maybe if someone takes too much water out of the ditch upstream of my hay field and is in competition of my interests to a good crop of hay, I would have sufficient cause to terminate his earthly existence?
I think this is rubbish!
If our society or any other goes down this path it’s not long until genocide is the end result.
In his world might make right, but in God’s world every human life matters and is worth the precious blood of Christ.

Because of grace,
Tim

Might makes right or right makes right?
Maybe another way of asking this question would be: Who’s right (as in moral right or wrong) makes a right (as in a freedom recognized by our country)?

What caused me to think about this question were two things. First, the Truth Project. In it Dell Tackett has had us wrestling with ultimate questions of ethics, morality and their relationship to civil law. Secondly, an editorial I read about the new law in Texas that bans abortion after a heartbeat.

In a Washington Post editorial, David Von Drehle argues that the Texas law is a classic case of Might makes Right politics. He argues that the mighty Christian conservatives in Texas are leveling their big guns at the weak and disenfranchised women of Texas who are being bludgeoned into submission and having to carry their babies full term and deliver them alive rather than having the right to terminate those inconvenient little ones while still in the womb.

I’m sorry, unless I missed the memo, I think his argument is ludicrous at best and intentionally deceptive at worst.
Who is the one person in this picture that is in reality defenseless unless we as a society come to his/her defense? I’d say the unborn child.
Not that women who have made some poor choices in the men they run with don’t need extra support from us as a people. Not that the men who fathered these children don’t need to be spanked for not taking seriously the procreative realities of the birds and the bees.

Society, and specifically the church has failed miserably at training young people in sexual morality and ethics. We say “if it feels good do it” and then we wonder why we have such a sick society on our hands. We do need to step up and help these that we have lied to as a people.

However, we must be unswerving in our commitment to those who are truly without defense- the unborn. Let us be a people that unrelentingly stands up for the unborn child.
They have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Because of grace,
Tim

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some will depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons.” I Timothy 4:1

Although much evil in the world is the result of the total depravity of man; nevertheless there is much evil in the world that is the direct result of the kingdom of darkness. Believers should not live in fear of the Prince of the power of the air and his minions, but neither should we discount the reality of their efforts.

Paul gives specific warning to the church that in these latter days Demonic doctrines would run rampant in the church and seduce the church to deviate from the faith.

This past week the Laramie paper ran an article against the Wyoming Pastor’s Network that reveals how distorted and deceptive these Demonic deceptions can be.
Going after the network for its vocal work to curtail abortion they said:
Not to be outdone in energizing the hate, the Wyoming Pastor’s Network says, “Hold my Beer”.
Now one would think that this group would be working on things that Jesus spoke about, helping the poor, the disenfranchised and the oppressed but instead they double down on a topic of which Jesus never cared to mention, in spite of its prevalence in his day, Abortion. .. America is now a place with rising inequality, impending climate disasters, immigration caused by American policies and many of these issues religion plays a large exacerbating role … If the Wyoming Pastors and their followers chose to fight for the issues Jesus held dear instead of attempting to bring the United States a theocracy we could focus on the terrible causes that lead to abortion instead of the desperate act itself.
Abortion is a symptom of America’s ills and apparently those are things the Wyoming Pastor’s Network has little interest in solving. Jesus the Son of God was not crucified for abortion but for fighting for the disenfranchised, while the Wyoming Pastors fight an ill they help create just to get paid and for power. In the immortal words of their dear leader – SAD.

I’ll let it speak for itself- sad!
Because of grace,
Tim
