Fear and Anger

Fear and AngerAnger, Frustration, Fear

I see the lines of worry etched in almost every face I meet.
When we are angry or afraid we seldom make good decisions. A healthy dose of a deep breath goes a long way to correcting foolish behavior.
Do we have good reason for concern? You bet! Like at few times in our nation’s history our cherished freedoms stand on the precipice of total collapse. The first and second amendments are literally hanging by a thread. View full article »

Shall Not Covet

CovetYou Shall Not Covet

Romans 7:7
What does it mean to covet?
The Larger Westminster catechism explains it this way:

Q-146: Which is the 10th commandment?
A: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbors.
Q-147: What are the duties required in the 10th commandment? View full article »

Sterner Times

Christmas JoyImmanuel Has Come!

O Come Let us adore Him!!
We truly hope and pray that in these unsettled times you find peace and joy in Christ our Lord. We pray that you can enjoy time with friends and family reminiscing and remembering as well as making knew memories and traditions.
We pray that the season will be filled with joy- even if it is a time of sorrow and loss for you personally.
There is a joy and peace that transcends our circumstances- that is deeper than pain and flows slowly and steadily as the river of God’s love. View full article »

Special Weekend

Dear Church family:
Want to remind you all that we have a special weekend coming up at church Dec 20, 2020.
I know some of you still need to stay away because of the danger from Covid, but we hope and pray that the live-stream can continue to minister to you and make you feel as much a part as possible.
This Christmas we have to be a little more creative in how we reach out to each other, but please know you are loved and appreciated by everyone here at EBCSV.
During the Sunday school hour the kids and those involved in the worship service will be practicing in the sanctuary and tying up any loose ends.
In the multi-purpose we will have hot coffee and some discussion questions for you as you gather around the tables. Looking forward to seeing you all.

*There are sign-up sheets in the foyer for various classes we would like to offer in the Sunday school hour this winter. Please sign up so we can gauge overall commitment to the various classes.
Merry Christmas,
Pastor Tim

Thankful

ThankfulnessThankful

There are many, many things I have to be thankful for.
When I sit and “count my blessings name them one by one”, I am overwhelmed at God’s goodness and grace on my behalf.

“And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the Word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted not as the word of men, but as what it really is, the Word of God, which is at work in you believers.” I Thessalonians 2:13 View full article »

Marriage vowsMarriage

Today we come to a text that reminds us of the binding nature of the marriage contract. It is not to be entered into lightly or ill advisedly- but reverently, soberly and in the fear of God!

Dearly beloved, we are gathered together in the sight of God and in the presence of this company, to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony. View full article »

Freedom of Religion

FreedomFreedom

During these times of accusation, turmoil and uncertainty; I thought it good to remind us all of some civics.
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Amendment I, the U.S. Constitution

It has been often noted that the first right expressed in our Bill of rights is the freedom of Religion. View full article »
