Give Thanks.
Have you ever wondered about God’s will for your life? In text like this God makes very clear to us what His revealed will for our lives looks like. If we busy ourselves about devoting our energy to the things that He has revealed, He will take care to make sure that the other details of our life fall into place. He directs our steps and guides our feet.
So what is His will? Rejoice all the time- Pray constantly and in every circumstance- Give thanks. These are three practical details of daily living that are easy to neglect. Now you say: “How can I be thankful for everything that comes my way?” I’m glad you asked.
First of all notice a very important word- “in”. God does not command us to give thanks “for” everything- but rather “in” everything. It is true that life can sometimes dish out some pretty bitter pills for us to swallow. “For” those events it is very difficult to thank Him- especially if the circumstance involved someone’s sin- or even our own sin. However, as we look at each and every circumstance that we find ourselves “in” we can still resolve to thank Him “in” it. Just like a bitter, complaining spirit is infectious, so too is an attitude of gratitude.
As you gather with friends and family this week, set aside some time to Thank Him. So, Come Ye thankful people come- Come and Thank the One who from His riches in glory has bestowed on us grace beyond measure and mercy for every day.
“Rejoice always! Pray constantly.
Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I Thessalonians 5:16-18
Because of grace,
Tim
Give thanks “IN” everything! A powerful devotional for all times but especially at Thanksgiving time. Reminds me of the Book of Daniel, never waivered in his faith and never whined about anything even when thrown to the lions.
