When Storms ComeCross or Curse?

Whenever we see friends or family going through deep trial, we always ask “why?” Of course, it is a natural sentiment that arises out of our love for others and concern for them. Sometimes we even hear the thought expressed in a phrase: Why do bad things happen to good people?

As Christians we have a deeper understanding- one that forms our worldview and gives us perspective. We realize that in an ultimate sense- there are no good people and that all we really deserve is eternal Hell! Even further, we see trials not as capricious acts of an angry God but rather as the loving training of a gracious Father.

When we rightly divide the Word of God, we come to see that physical suffering is part of the curse. Accepting Christ as our Lord does not make us immune from the effects of the curse. We often say this- but sometimes we fail to actually believe it. There are nasty bugs, defective genes and roving viruses in each and every one of us. Each one of us will ultimately fall prey to some aspect of the curse when death comes knocking on our door. Until that time, we will struggle against disease and illness, cancer and auto-immune syndromes. And while you do- Remember! Remember there is One who suffered for us and with us- and He intercedes as a faithful and merciful High Priest. Run to Him with boldness and trust His eternal plan.

Because of grace,
Tim
