Simple Wisdom for Common Folk
“There is desirable treasure, and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man squanders it.” Proverbs 21:20
As we probe deeper into this text on giving, I thought I’d remind us of some financial nuggets of truth that we should seek to incorporate into our families lives. So here’s some simple wisdom for common folk.*Give generously
*Live simply
*Save systematically
*Spend wisely
*Work hard
*Watch your wants
*Know your needs
*Spend less than you make
*Make a plan and work your plan
So to sum it up: We need to remember that life is a marathon not a sprint- so plan for the long haul. Remind yourself if something sounds too good to be true, it is. Young couples, remember it took a life time for your parents to get where they are financially, don’t expect it overnight. Don’t go in debt for depreciating assets and consumer goods. Have a budget and let it be your guide- not your master.
Remind yourself it’s not always how much you make as much as it is how much you keep. You can’t get ahead by always switching jobs- find something you love to do for the glory of God and do it as unto the Lord! If you’re constantly squandering every dollar you make on frivolity and entertainment- don’t expect to live very well. And never forget- you can’t out give God- it’s impossible. Invest in eternity- the returns are out of this world!!!
Because of grace,
Tim
