Games people play, no laughing matter!

HB0130 Education: Elective Academic Bible Study had the support of more than 2/3 of the House and passed out of the Senate Education committee last Friday only to sit on the shelf of the Majority Floor Leader’s desk to die.

Senator Phil Nicholas obviously did not deem this issue important enough to be heard.  The state Senate earlier in the session passed a similar bill  that would make sure that an elective program was in place for Wyoming students to learn about ENERGY because it is a vital part of our culture, history, and income.  But the actions of Senator Nicholas today states that the Bible was unworthy of being taught in our schools even though the Bible has had a significant impact on our culture, history, literature, and society for over 200 years.

The Senate also had time today to discuss bills where they could make off colored remarks about bodily functions and have a good laugh in order to avoid working a serious bill like HB 130. The leaders will tell you they ran out of time. But this is simply not true.  The Senate adjourned early (4:45 PM) for the weekend and successfully killed HB 130 Education:Elective Academic Bible Study, as well as the 2nd Amendment bills. This action by the Majority Floor Leader affects all Wyoming citizens who have been accused of  “clinging to our Bibles and guns.”

According to Becky Vandeberghe of WyWatch Family Action of Wyoming; As a lobbyist for the past 11 legislative sessions, I have seen the Senators and Representatives work early in the morning and late into the night to successfully clear the desk on the Last day for bills to be heard on General File.  Somehow this Senate leadership doesn’t think they need to work long hours to do the people’s work.

Send up a prayer of thanks for this courageous wife, mother and friend to Wyoming and then make Mr. Nicholas aware of your disappointment with him.

Scott
