Bench WarmersBench Warmers

I Feel for Terry Bridgewater.
My Minnesota Vikings finally have a good quarterback, look like they have a chance for a good season with the playoffs in front of them when a freak accident destroys Terry’s knee and puts him out for the season. Tough place to be- sitting on the bench.

I’ve been learning that sitting on life’s bench isn’t the easiest place to be. When we are used to being busy, being productive, running here, doing that- it is tough to put that aside and watch life from the sidelines.  Many of you have been on the bench for a time of your life- maybe your there semi-permanently because of age or ill health. Does that mean you’re done? Does that mean you no longer have a purpose?
I think not!
I’ve also been learning that being on the bench can be a place of great personal growth. It grants perspective. It gives time to think and meditate. It gives time to share wisdom with the players in the game. In eternal perspective it weans us from the tyranny of activity and drives us to prayer and meditation. It lets us learn as we watch others play the game, so that when we get back into the game we know better how to play it. So remind yourself when you seem stuck on the bench- God doesn’t want you just warming a spot- he wants you cheering the team.

Because of grace,
Tim
