\"Sabbath-Principle\"Sabbath Principle<\/h4>\n

Even a cursory reading of the Bible reveals what many have called \u201cthe Sabbath principle.\u201d Repeatedly, God asks His people to set apart one day a week for Him.\u00a0 In the Old Testament, the Jews recognized the seventh day of the week as their Sabbath.\u00a0 Because the Lord was resurrected on the first day of the week; the Apostles and early believers began to meet on Sunday morning\u2019s to commemorate that event.\u00a0 Ever since, God\u2019s people have met to Worship their Lord on Sunday\u2019s.\u00a0 Many of the early Confession\u2019s of the faith teach the importance of setting aside time each week for worship.\u00a0 For instance, in the New Hampshire Baptist confession of 1833, the statement appears: \u201cWe believe that the first day of the week is the Lord\u2019s Day or Christian Sabbath; and is to be kept sacred\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRemember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.\u201d ~ Exodus 20:8<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.\u201d~ Mark 2:27<\/p>\n

As it says in Mark 2, God didn\u2019t create this principle to hem us in or make us miserable, He asked us to do this for our benefit. In His good book, Restoring Your Spiritual Passion<\/u>, Gordon MacDonald suggests some reasons why God instituted this day of Worship:<\/p>\n

  1. Rest and refreshment from a busy schedule<\/li>\n
  2. Remembrance of God\u2019s gracious work in redemption<\/li>\n
  3. Renunciation of daily affairs<\/li>\n
  4. Recurrence on a weekly basis<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you will make a habit of setting aside time each week to assemble with God\u2019s people for worship, God will bless you for it. I guarantee you, if you make attendance a priority, the old Devil will do everything in his power to hinder you—so be ready for a fight. \u201cResist the Devil and He will flee from you.\u201d<\/p>\n
